@chienfou@tweezak same. We do dinner every night together. We only do breakfast together on holidays and weekends because everyone’s schedules are so different. Actually our eldest is taking culinary in high school and has been making breakfast for he and his sister, as they’re both in high school. We have a Sunday meeting where we go over financials, talk about the upcoming week and meal plan. Every kid has to pick at least one meal and they’re responsible for prepping and or helping to cook it. Weve been doing that part for a few months and it’s been delightfully successful.
@chienfou@sillyheathen@tweezak The deal we had in this household of 2 (me and the kid) was whomever cooked didn’t do the dishes. And trust me - that motivated the kid to do a lot of cooking and she made a mess that went from here to the moon and back. But she learned a lot about cooking and her friends ere impressed.
@medz What? You have multiple of each??? You are going to be in deep trouble if all of them get mad at you at once. If you go missing on this forum we’ll know what happened.
@Kidsandliz@medz Not sure if that’s more of a prediction or a threat. Either way, it might be a good time to start considering a new city and girlfriends. The wives might be a bit more problematic. Miami sounds nice this time of year.
@hchavers Around here, that’s usually something we made and then froze in one-meal portions. Chili, several bean dishes, and several rice dishes tend to be frequent entrees available for heat-n-eat. The beans usually get combined with rice.
Tuesday or Wednesday I usually make a decent meal bc Monday is leftover due to garbage the next morning. It all just depends on what we have left in the fridge and what we’ve cooked over the weekend.
We cook for the whole week on Sunday or Monday night, so leftovers on Wednesday and every other night until Friday dinner.
If we do cook during the week, it’s most likely Thursday dinner, and something quick.
I love to cook so it’s normally big meal night, then leftover night, then big meal night… rinse, repeat.
My daughter was home from college this weekend and we made a bunch of bucatini. My daughter made the sauce with fresh veg from the farmer’s market. Lots of yum. Later I made a Japanese gyudon. It’s a simple beef and rice bowl. I’m trying to figure out tonight’s plan.
My wife made Irish soda bread yesterday, we still have some dried bucatini, and I’ve got a bunch of rainbow trout and cod in the freezer. If I can source some cucumbers this morning I’ll also be making some gazpacho this afternoon… but that won’t be ready until tomorrow.
I shop for the meal, so I’m typically at Wegman’s three or four times a week. It’s my zen spot
@Kidsandliz And I think I like cooking so much because it’s wonderful for my ADHD The more complex the meal, the better. My brain enjoys working on many things at once. But I have been (frequently) known to leave the oven on when I’m done… heh.
Well Dinner or really any other meal what ever I pull out of the cabinet, freezer, or refrigerator. Rarely do I have leftovers. It’s just me and the cat.
Cooking has been the family business for four generations. Each of my kids has learned to cook at home, taking turns once a week. Although most of them went into other occupations, the youngest now owns and operates her own restaurant, just like her grandfather.
Every day is a meal day, but Wednesday is clean out day, as we shop on Thursdays.
@olperfesser That’s great My daughter and I have been cooking together since she was teeny tiny. When a chair was just as an important tool as a stand mixer In fact, she was an award winning brewer at the age of four!

edit - And fun fact, she actually took that stand mixer to college with her

Well so far tonight (Wed) I have my remaining chicken tender. Cold. Then about a 4th of a cup of mixed nuts with m&m’s. Oh and some orange juice. I an contemplating a piece of cherry pie I got a the food bank I volunteer at on Wed’s except I have no ice cream in the house. The nag in my brain is telling me I need some veggies. So far I haven’t given in to the nag.
@Kidsandliz I’ve had dinners like that. Most recently, corn chips with an assortment of dips - hummus, guac, and chipotle “Bitchin Sauce.” Then cherry Kringle coffee cake for dessert.
I know it’s Thursday but dinner was perfect for this somewhat autumnal weather we’re having. Chapple(cheddar apple) grits, garlicky kale and shallots, herb encrusted pork loin roasted to just over medium and sliced thinly.
What will happen tonight…
@chienfou
… which turned out to be Pizza.
Wednesday dinner is no different than any other night
@heartny yeah, I’m surprised they didn’t have that as an option
@heartny yeah! When I really phone it in, because of the slump
Do people actually plan meals anymore? When I grew up we always sat down as a family for a homemade breakfast and dinner. Seems like that has ended.
@tweezak
Yes we do, and no it hasn’t.
@chienfou I am glad to hear that. I was losing hope for society.

@chienfou @sillyheathen @tweezak
Nice
@tweezak
I don’t but I’m a single person who lives alone and works from home.
@tweezak Well, that ended big time after Dad passed & now with Mom gone, it is just me & the extremely spoiled cat
& I.

It’s when I go to work and have a snack with coffee when I start at 9pm.
Wednesday dinner is for the girlfriends. Saturday is for the wives.
@medz
What is this goodfellas

Wednesday dinner is either whatever one of us decides to make, or whatever we decide to pull out of the fridge or freezer to reheat.
Wednesday is Prince Spaghetti Day
another microwave, precooked meal
@hchavers Around here, that’s usually something we made and then froze in one-meal portions. Chili, several bean dishes, and several rice dishes tend to be frequent entrees available for heat-n-eat. The beans usually get combined with rice.
@tweezak just need mustard, saltines and a fishing boat! Also the small glass bottles of ice cold Coca Cola.
What it is depends entirely on what lunch was and whether any was left. Usually not worth any more effort than that, for one person.
Tuesday or Wednesday I usually make a decent meal bc Monday is leftover due to garbage the next morning. It all just depends on what we have left in the fridge and what we’ve cooked over the weekend.
Inspiration time:

The obvious, on Wednesday. Are there different food groups for different days of the week?
@rustyh3
not sure about the rest, but meatless Monday, taco Tuesday, and Friday fish come to mind…
I love to cook so it’s normally big meal night, then leftover night, then big meal night… rinse, repeat.

@capnjb I hate to cook. Can I come live at your house as a pretend daughter?
@Kidsandliz There is always room at my table
@Kidsandliz And I think I like cooking so much because it’s wonderful for my ADHD

@capnjb
please build on a small extra wing at your house, just for me.
Or a tiny house in the backward (with insulation, climate control, plumbing, and electricity) will do fine.
Again, just for me.
I am willing to wash dishes or whatever.
I am willing to try hard not to be annoying.
/giphy please please please

Wednesday is hump day, so camel.
when i play trivia, so whatever sounds good at the restaurant i’m going to be
Something cheap, homemade and forgettable.

PS I just gave in and had a piece of cherry pie.
@Kidsandliz I’ve had dinners like that.

@Kidsandliz
Cherries are fruit. So I guess that was a healthy meal.
If you had two slices of cherry pie, that’s even more healthy fruit in your diet !

@sillyheathen Yummmmm
